Acid base balance

Acid base balance

Acids and bases formed in the body as part of normal metabolic processes. Acids are formed as end products of fat and protein metabolism. These are called fixed because they do not change once they are formed.

 Acid base imbalance

Acids and bases are formed in the body as part of normal metabolic processes. To regulate acid - base balance , the Kidneys secrete hydrogen ion (acid), reabsorb sodium ion (acid) and bicarbonate ion (base ). Acidify produced ammonium ion (acid). This keeps the blood at its normal ph that is 7.35 to 7.45.

Respiratory acidosis

Respiratory acidosis is a condition that occurs when the lungs cannot remove all of the carbon dioxide that is body product produces. In respiratory acidosis the pH of blood is less than 7.35.
It may be either acute or chronic. Acute acidosis present when an abrupt failure of ventilation is occurs. Chronic is because of long term pulmonary disease.

Causes of respiratory acidosis

When amount of carbon dioxide ie removed by the respiratory system is falls below the amount of carbon dioxide produced by the tissue.

Respiratory alkalosis

Alkalosis is a condition marked by a low level of carbon dioxide in the blood due to breathing excessively and hyperventilation. In respiratory
Alkalosis pH of the blood is increases over 7.45.

Metabolic acidosis

It is Chracterised by decrease plasma bicarbonate in the blood. And blood ph level decrease ie less then 7.35.ie increase acid level in the blood. Or an non respiratory disorder

Metabolic alkalosis

Metabolic alkalosis is characterized by increase plasma bicarbone in the blood  Ie further ph increased 7.45.ie decrease acid level in blood
